Thank you for your interest in the Sac City Rollers Rec League Program! Rec League was designed to not only provide core basic training to up and coming and returning derby skaters, but also to accommodate those who would love to play the sport but do not have the time/desire to do so competitively.

We’ve also found it has become the perfect boot-camp style primer for those looking to prepare for SCR tryouts. Our classes are for women 18 & older (no limit on age) and is designed for women of all shapes & sizes (no weight or height requirement).

Our eight-week sessions meet on Monday evenings. The current session began February 24th. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information about participating.

Time: Mondays, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. (please show up at 6 p.m. to fill out paperwork during your first session)

Location: The Cell Block (1636 Kathleen Ave., Sacramento CA 95815)

Cost: $10 per class or $70 for the entire session.

Please Bring: A mouth guard, a pair of quad roller skates, tennis shoes and a water bottle. Roller derby requires a helmet, wrist guards, knee pads and elbow pads. We do have some loaner gear but it is always best if you have your own.

By the end of this course you will be knowledgeable about roller derby core basics as well as scrimmaging and rules. Get started learning the rules by coming to our games and studying up online at www.wftda.com

Hope to see you on the track!

Derby Heroine: ALL of the fiercely dedicated, inspirational, talented ladies of SCR -- pssst: I sooooooo want be able to hip check like HN Icy when I grow up!

Loves: Family, especially being an auntie (there’s no better gig) … Camping … Sacramento summer nights … Music (the louder the better)

Hates: Chores … Cooked mushrooms … Liars (yep - you suck!) … and, lower back muscles that scream at me when I skate because I’ve neglected my core

Worst Injury: ankle fracture

Favorite derby position: Blocker

Personal theme song: Bad Reputation by Joan Jett

Fun fact: I have a strange obsession with tech gadgets, which I’m told is going to either make me broke or deaf in the future – maybe both …

Personal motto: Fall down seven times, get up eight

Why derby? The challenge. The strategy. The fitness. The friendships. Derby restores my sanity and is therapy for my soul …

What made you try Rec League? My younger sister aka Gloria Sass with JBLM Bettie Brigade. Her relentless encouragement gave me the guts to show up at a SCR boot camp even though the last time I was on skates they had metal wheels. I’m forever grateful to her … Thanks, Sass xoxo

Would you do it again? I can’t imagine the thought of not doing it again - ‘nuf said!
